Finally, to calculate chronic absenteeism savings, the user must input the number of chronically absent students (those who are absent for at least 10% of the school year) or the chronic absenteeism rate if the former is not known. The calculation assumes that Inner Explorer can reduce chronic absenteeism by 10%, and the result is multiplied by the national average cost of $50 per student per day of absence and 18 days (the definition of chronic absenteeism) to arrive at the potential savings.
